Car Insurance – Cutting Out the Middle Man

There are two different kinds of car insurance brokers, traditional and direct. There are benefits and negative aspects to both the different types. Only by learning what they are about and determining what your personal car insurance needs are will you be able to decide which type would be best for you.

Direct car insurance is a relatively new idea, and was formulated by companies realizing that they would save more money by cutting out the ‘middle man’. With no more brokers’ commissions to pay they had more money to offer a lower car insurance premium to the public. Unfortunately the downside to this is that without the broker to reach the public, the company has to do it themselves. This means expensive and extravagant advertising schemes such as billboards, television, radio, flyers and other print media. The direct insurer will have a call centre where interested potential clients can then phone in and obtain more information.

With direct insurers there is a bit of a debate because some people feel that the premiums are not actually that much cheaper as a lot of money is spent on advertising to reach the public. The call centre agent who logs the call and the new client’s information will also receive a once off commission payment.

This is how the direct insurers differ from the traditional car insurance brokers. The traditional insurance brokers will have a person who deals directly with the public, and makes commission off their client’s monthly car insurance premium. Some people may prefer the idea of having a broker to go to with their problems. If you prefer a more personal one-on-one experience then this may be the route that you would be more comfortable with.

In conclusion, it is only a matter of looking around and doing research on the two different types that will help you determine what will be best for you.
